Just 30 km from Argostoli and 7 km north of Sami, Agia Efimia is found on the East Coast of Kefalonia. With plenty of rocky coves to explore, you are a short drive (about 20 minutes) away from Myrtos beach, which is recognized worldwide for its beauty. Agia Efimia is a very pretty fishing village with a number of traditional Greek waterside cafes and tavernas running parallel to the sheltered marina. Although a small village, it benefits from restaurants, bakeries, ice cream cafes, supermarkets and a good selection of shops. A popular spot for yachting flotillas, you can enjoy a drink whilst watching the sailors moor up after a day cruising in the crystal clear Ionian Sea. This beautiful location is uncommercial and surrounded by sea and fir tree cloaked mountains.

Planning your stay/things to do
Agia Efimia is a low key relaxing area to stay but there are still plenty of activities to choose from to entice you away from the sun bed. Boat hire is available to self-drive, and enable you to enjoy the beautiful coastline. The boats are all yellow and so you won’t miss them! If you wanted to go further afield, daily cruises are from the harbour in Agia Efimia and will take you to the mystical island of Ithaca, Meganissi, and Skopios.
Festivals in Agia Efimia
Named after Saint Efimia, the village holds a festival in her honour each year. Saint Efimia’s icon is carried to the harbour from the church on the evening of 11 July to be blessed. A procession of local priests, a marching band and villagers accompany the icon. Festivities then take place around the harbour with singing, dancing and fireworks, there is also a market on this day which sells everything!
May day is celebrated throughout Greece and celebrations are held in many of the villages on the island, including Agia Efimia. You will enjoy Greek dancing with many local villagers and schoolchildren participating.
Exploring
Local maps are available in the village for hikes across to Myrtos beach but if this feels too energetic then maybe a trip with George and his jeep safari may be the order of the day. Outdoor Kefalonia could take you to the National park looking for wild horses on the way to the top of Mount Ainos, or if you have an interest in WW11 history and the filming of Captain Corelli, George has in-depth knowledge and his love of Kefalonia to share. For a more relaxing day at sea you could charter ‘My Yacht’ an outstanding motor boat with a crew. You can choose your day out with the skipper to explore hidden coves, deserted beaches or travel further to visit other enchanting islands. You will find ‘My Yacht’ moored in Agia Efimia’s pretty harbour most evenings.

Diving
The Aquatic Diving Centre, based in the village since 1997, offer a range of experiences for both novices and those with diving experience. The team equate diving to ‘flying under water’ and with underwater visibility exceeding 40 metres this is a great opportunity to explore the rich interesting world of the crystal clear Ionian sea.
