Holiday inspiration for the island of Kefalonia
South of Lefkada and Ithaca and north of Zante, Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands which also include, Corfu, Paxos and Kythira. The most mountainous island of the group, Kefalonia is approximately 53km in length and 38km wide with a 237km coastline.
The island benefits from long hot sunny summers and short mild rainy winters with occasional snow, mainly on the mountains.
Kefalonia has developed over the past few years into a family destination, and it has managed to keep the authenticity of Greece gone by, with a relaxed atmosphere, wonderful people, delicious food and wine.
Apart from unwinding on exotic beaches such as Antisamos, Lourdas, Skala, Xi, Myrtos (awarded multiple times worldwide for its beauty) and swimming in the crystal clear Ionian Sea, there are picturesque villages, mediaeval castles, beautiful monasteries and famous natural sites to visit.
Argostoli, found on the west coast, is the Capital, and where you will see turtles swimming in the sea around lunchtime each day. Whereas in the North is Fiscardo, the most cosmopolitan resort on the island and where you will observe a selection of luxurious yachts moored throughout the summer.
Once voted tenth in the world for scenic beauty, and with lovely beaches (there are around 40), caves and the magnificent mountains, Kefalonia is an island to be explored

Go on a hike
With its spectacular scenery, large wooded areas and rugged coastline Kefalonia is a hiker’s paradise. Over the last few years the shepherds’ paths, used for hundreds of years as a way of moving around the island, have been renovated and sign posted with distance between 2 points and the estimated time for completion. You can wander through Cypress forests and deserted villages or visit WW2 battery emplacements. Visit some of the more secluded beaches with a picnic and then a slow walk back to the villa for a cocktail on the terrace.

For those that want to discover Kefalonia a car is essential. Largest of the Ionian Islands, Kefalonia has a diverse terrain and amazing places to visit. Sleepy villages tucked up in the hills, silent Monasteries or fantastic fishing marinas, all give the visitor a glimpse of a more relaxed and traditional way of life.
